My publications

I have written for a variety of academic, social movement, and popular outlets.

My teaching

I have over a decade of experience teaching a wide variety of courses in US and Latin American History at the University of Illinois, Governors State University, Aurora University, and Manchester University. Many of my courses have focused on histories of race, racism, and anti-racism. I love teaching history because understanding change in the past can help us make society better in the present and future.

About me

I am an independent scholar and historian with decades of experience in anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, and anarchist struggles.. I am a life-long midwesterner: I was born in Wisconsin, received a BA in Philosophy at Carleton College in Minnesota, and got my PhD in History at the University of Illinois in 2016. I write about Chicago’s Puerto Rican community, Latina/o/x social movements in the second half of the 20th century, and the roles of race, racism and anti-racism in United States history.
